My Experiences with Government

I was raised a Republican.  Although I was not much into political events and worldly issues, my ideas of an ideal government were pretty conservative, as were my parents' and grandparents' and probably their predecessors.  To this day I would rather not talk politics with my Grandfather, for I might be disowned.  I voted in the presidential races since I was legal, and always Republican; yes I even voted for George W., twice.  In recent years my opinions have changed.  Because of the poor economic state our nation has been in recently, among other reasons, I have lost faith in the Republican party, but still don't fully trust the Democrats either.  According to the website, my ideology most closely resembles the Disaffected typology group.  I think the website is right on the money.

As the description of a "Disaffected" is described, I do not keep up with news about politics and government.  I feel as if my opinion does not matter, (but I have and will vote), and I also feel like politicians are usually after personal gain.  My scores on the civics and current events quizzes were pretty low.  I find that embarrassing but not surprising.

I am taking this class to strengthen my knowledge on our government, and because it's required to get my degree.  I hope when this class is finished, I have a better understanding of our political system.  I also hope that it makes me more interested in current events.
